The Law Department in NDMC was created sometimes in 1978. Main responsibility of the Law Department is tendering or obtaining legal advice for the various departments of NDMC on legal issues pertaining to their department. Law Department is also looking after the cases filed by the against NDMC. It is also the duty of the Law Department to file appeals against the orders, if any passed against the NDMC, in the Higher Court. For the Purposeof contesting the cases, Law Department engages the Advocates to appear in the courts for and on behalf of NDMC.

1. Aims and Objects Of Organization:

     The Law Department has been set up to give advice to the Chairperson in instituting and pursuing legal proceedings and to give legal advice on other matters. This is as per provisions of Section 383 of the NDMC Act, 1994.

     This is a department to give legal advice and to pursue legal proceedings. Such a department exists in all local bodies. Exact date of establishment is not known. As aforesaid, it is an integral part of any oranization.

4. Duties to be performed to achieve the mission.

     The duties to be perform is to give legal advice and to get attended to the litigation.

5. Details of services rendered

     Files for advice are processed by the DLO's and ALO's. The litigation side is attended to by legal retainers and advocates appointed by the Council.
