ELECTRICITY DEPARTMENT

Petition Under the Electricity Act-2003

Pre-qualification notice for Sound & Stage Lighting System

The Electricity Department is responsible for uninterrupted power supply to consumers. It constructs and maintains sub-stations. It lays transmission & distribution and service cables to consumers. It sanctions connections to various categories of consumers. Good standard of road lighting is provided. Electrical and Mechanical services are installed and maintained at all NDMC Buildings.

Electricity Deptt, is also successfully taken energy efficient measure which can be replicated in Govt./Private buildings.

Electricity Deptt. supplies power to its one lac consumer (Approx.) on H.T. 33KV, 11KV and L.T. 400/230V. NDMC is dependant on DTL for bulk power supply which is mainly on 66KV, 33KV and 11KV as it is not generating its own electricity. In addition, it maintains street lighting, swimming pools, Talkatora Indoor Stadium, Shivaji Stadium, Barat Ghars, Community Centers, Working Girls Hostels and other Municipal Buildings.

Against the expected demand of electricity of 375MVA during the year 2009-10 the peak load observed was 341MVA. The expected peak load for the year 2010-11 is 390MVA which is likely to increase to 430MVA by 2012 and 650MVA by 2020.

The distribution system comprises of 3 Nos. 66KV substations, 19 Nos. 33KV substations and 428 Nos. 11KV substations. The distribution system in NDMC area is through underground cables.

Improvement of system by augmenting the transforming capacity of various existing sub-stations, erection of new sub-stations, laying of new feeders to meet the rising load demand and to ensure uninterrupted qualities supply to its consumers and improvement of street lighting is main objective of the Deptt.

In order to meet the existing as well as future power requirements, the infrastructure is required to be augmented substantially for which various sub-stations of 66KV, 33KV & 11KV will have to be established, keeping in view the short term and long term requirement as under:-

Short-term requirement
upto 2012.

Long -term required
upto 2020.

Energy Conservation

Since the availability of power from DTL is limited while the load in NDMC area is increasing and is likely to reach 650MVA by 2020, NDMC decided to undertake a measure effort to control this problem through a series of steps involving conservation of energy by NDMC as well as all the major consumers in its area which includes the following:-

a)

SCADA System for the sub-station networks upto 33KV level.

b)

Training to NDMC Engineers for implementing projects on a regular basis and sustaining the gains .

c)

Using the experience acquired in Palika Kendra as a basis for strongly encourage large consumer to initiate energy efficiency and conservation in their premises beginning with programmes tailored to AIIMS and other large consumers.

d)

Pilot project for energy efficiency of one major commercial center like Connaught Place, one major hospital like AIIMS and five star hotel like Taj Palace.
