NDMC is in the core area of National Capital
Territory of Delhi and it houses Rashtrapati Bhawan, P.M. House, and
residences of V.V.I.P. is including Ministers bungalows and M.Ps flats, diplomats,
Five Star Hotels, Hospitals, besides general public, mostly Central
Government employees. This area which is about 43 sq. km is not densely
populated but there is a floating population of about 15 lacs people
comprising of mostly commuters and filter water is also required for them.
The objective of water supply scheme is to
deliver to each in terms of taste, odour and appearance.
Generation and supplying of filtered water to
NDMC is the responsibility of Delhi Jal Board. NDMC is getting bulk supply
from Delhi Jal Board from numbers of reservoirs and tapping from NDMC mains
at Hans Bhawan, Nizamuddin, Moti Bagh and Netaji Nagar. Since Delhi Jal Board
is not able to supply adequate quantity of filtered water in required
pressure to NDMC, so to meet the short fall, NDMC has provided 100 tubewells
and 700 deep well hand pumps. The total requirement for NDMC area is 225
Million Litres per day (MLD) whereas Delhi Jal Board is supplying about
115MLD and about 15 MLD is being supplemented through deep tube wells of
NDMC.
To ensure that every Consumer gets water with
adequate pressure, NDMC has constructed 24 nos. of underground water tanks
with boosting arrangements in different areas from where water is supplied in
morning and evening.
